Purely from a visual standpoint I loved how they captured everything, so I watched it twice, and the tune’s been stuck in my head ever since.
Jordan Rakei
R&B/Soul

I discovered Jordan Rakei during the COVID lockdown, if I remember correctly. The album (Origin) that this song belongs to was my introduction to Jordan Rakei. His songs (which are a product of his taste/style) felt different, fresh, and new compared to a lot of the artists/songs out there and I was immediately hooked. It felt like I had discovered something so novel.

My go-to chill/calm song. It hits differently at night with eyes closed. There are hundreds of remixes, many of which are also pretty cool.
Avial

"Avial" is a traditional Kerala dish, made at home to bring out the best of vegetables. I started listening to Avial (the band) in school, and they were my introduction to rock. "Karukara" is based on a Malayalam poem from 1979, that describes the dark skies, heavy clouds and the eventual rain that cleanses.

Found this song around the time I came to India, through the This Never Happened (house music label) playlist. The title is apt, because no matter if I'm happy or down, this song makes me feel like I'm floating.

Choosing one is always difficult, so sharing one randomly out of my liked playlist. Good mixture of local and global hip hop.

I really love the lyrics of this song, it's very comforting. I also like the way how Luc De Vos sings, it's really calming and gives the song a melancholy vibe.

I came across this in a 303 acid bath. I cannot relate to the music video, but the poetry of the spoken, not sung, words atoning amidst gregorian chants and 303s, overpower me. For a song ostensibly about falling down, it makes me rise again.
